Most tourists prefer reaching Manali by road. The distance between Delhi and Manali is approximately 570 km via NH-21, usually taking 12 to 14 hours depending on traffic and weather conditions.
Private operators have modernized the Delhi-Manali route with specialized services, including dedicated passenger lounges at the starting points in Delhi.
| Brand | Service Level | Lounge Facility | Unique Perks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zingbus (Max) | Ultra-Premium | Premium Lounge | Onboard Dinner, Welcome Kit, Hotel Breakfast |
| FlixBus | Global Standard | Eldeco Junction | GPS Tracking, High Safety, Front Row Views |
| Laxmi Holidays | Royal Volvo | Available | Extreme Punctuality, High Frequency |
| IntrCity SmartBus | Premium | Smart Lounge | In-bus Washroom, Clean Bedding, Crew Support |
Zingbus Max provides a Welcome Kit (dental care/snacks) and a structured meal plan. Dinner is served inside the bus, and breakfast is arranged at a clean, verified hotel during the morning stop.
Operators like FlixBus and Zingbus offer AC waiting lounges with Wi-Fi and clean washrooms at Kashmiri Gate and Majnu Ka Tila, far superior to the general ISBT waiting areas.
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) operates reliable Himsuta (Volvo) and Himgaurav (Deluxe) buses from ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
Buses usually depart from Platforms 20-22. The ticket rate for an HRTC Volvo is approximately ₹1,100.
The nearest airport is Bhuntar (KUU), located 52 km from Manali. Daily flights operate from Delhi, but are often subject to weather conditions. Alternatively, tourists fly into Chandigarh (IXC), which has better connectivity from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai, and then proceed by taxi (300 km).
There is no direct rail connectivity to Manali. The most convenient broad-gauge railway stations are Chandigarh (CDG) and Kalka (KLK). From Kalka, you can also experience the Historic Toy Train to Shimla before heading to Manali by road.

One can also reach Manali via Shimla (260 km) or through the scenic Jalori Pass via Rampur. For travelers coming from the north, Manali is connected to Leh, Ladakh via the Atal Tunnel (490 km), a route that is strictly seasonal and dependent on snow clearance at high passes.
